The Doctors Quaymed
The brief was to design an integrated medical centre with a pharmacy within 353m2 an inner city environment, a place where city dwellers and workers would feel comfortable returning to as their regular medical centre.
Four Doctor Consult rooms, nurse triage room, re-suss room and a specialist’s room were designed within the medical centre are of 210m2. The pharmacy to the left provides internal access to both. A large b&w image of the city landscape is featured to the end wall with a high bench and docking station.
Different zones within the medical centre waiting room were created providing different preferences for seating. A raised reception area was introduced, enabling front line staff to have eye to eye contact with clients.
Priority to the Doctors working conditions was given by placing the consult rooms in the northern face of the building allowing the doctors to have access to natural light.
Various elements were combined to give the reception area a homely ‘kiwana’ feel including warm but neutral colour palette of dark greys and natural timber. Use of weatherboards and a dining table are strong features in the waiting area and timber slat ceiling feature with recessed light span the length of reception and forma screen to the pharmacy. Complimentary timber elements have been applied to adjacent walls of suspended lighting fittings as well as a three dimensional reception counter. The same timbers are repeated through the medical practice.
